Guinea-Bissau stunned the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a convincing 3–0 victory in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group L match on Tuesday.

The defeat came as a major setback for Nigeria, who had started their qualifying campaign with a 2–1 comeback victory over Madagascar. Guinea-Bissau, meanwhile, made it two wins from two matches and moved to the top of Group L with six points.

Franculino Djú opened the scoring for Guinea-Bissau in the 15th minute before Mama Baldé doubled the hosts’ advantage in the second half. Álvaro Djaló then completed the 3–0 victory deep into stoppage time.

Nigeria struggled to find a response throughout the match and failed to score despite creating opportunities. The result has left the Super Eagles with three points from their opening two matches and increased the pressure on the team ahead of their remaining fixtures.

The heavy defeat is likely to raise questions among Nigerian football supporters about the team’s performance and preparations for the AFCON qualification campaign. However, Nigeria’s qualification hopes are still alive, with four matches remaining and 12 points available.

The Super Eagles will need to respond strongly in their remaining fixtures if they are to secure the qualification spot available from Group L. Guinea-Bissau currently hold the advantage after their impressive start, but the qualifying campaign is far from over.
