A young Nigerian man has alleged that he was defrauded of ₦96 million in a deal involving eight containers of vehicles, after he was reportedly directed to an individual said to be connected to the Nigeria Customs Service in Abuja.

The incident, which the victim said occurred in July, was brought to the attention of social media activist VeryDarkMan on Wednesday.

According to the victim, he came across a social media post advertising goods allegedly available for purchase through Customs officials. He contacted the person who shared the post after being told that several containers containing vehicles were available for sale.

The young man said he was eventually offered eight containers, with each container reportedly containing four cars and priced at ₦12 million.

Based on the quoted price, the total amount for the eight containers came to ₦96 million.

The victim alleged that he made payments after being directed to an individual at a Customs-related office in Abuja. He also claimed that he and the agents involved had paid for flight tickets before travelling to Abuja as part of the transaction.

However, after making the payment, the promised vehicles and containers allegedly failed to materialise, leaving him to realise that he may have been deceived.

The matter was subsequently brought before VeryDarkMan, who shared the victim’s account publicly and called attention to the alleged transaction.

The allegations have not, however, been independently established, and it remains unclear whether the individuals involved are genuine Customs officials or were impersonating government officers.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the alleged transaction or announced an investigation into the matter.

The incident highlights the risks involved in making large payments based on social media advertisements or claims of access to government-released goods without independently verifying the identities and official status of the people involved.
