The Gombe State High Court has sentenced two men, Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami, to death by hanging after finding them guilty of armed robbery, criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

Justice Muhammad-Auwal Haruna delivered the judgment at Court No. 5 of the Gombe State High Court on Wednesday.

The case was linked to the September 18, 2025, attack on 35-year-old Murtala Rabi’u at Garin Galadima village, near Pindiga in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

According to the prosecution, the two men armed themselves with dangerous weapons, including sticks and hoes, before attacking Rabi’u.

The prosecution said the victim was robbed of an Itel keypad mobile phone and ₦7,400 cash. He allegedly suffered serious injuries during the attack and later died. His body was subsequently dumped in a maize farm.

The defendants had pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

During the trial, the prosecution called two witnesses, while the defence called one witness. After considering the evidence presented by both sides, Justice Haruna ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court subsequently convicted Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami and sentenced each of them to death by hanging.
