The Kano State Government has directed all civil servants who have reached the statutory retirement age or completed the required years of service to immediately vacate their offices and hand over their official responsibilities.

The directive was contained in Circular No. 10/2026, dated October 6, 2026, issued by the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Kano State.

The government said it had observed that some civil servants continued to remain in office and perform official duties after reaching the statutory retirement period.

According to the circular, such continued stay in service violates the Kano State Civil Service Rules and other applicable regulations.

The affected officers were directed to immediately hand over official documents, government property and their responsibilities to their immediate subordinates or other designated officers within their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The government also instructed Permanent Secretaries, Chief Executives, Accounting Officers and Directors of Administration and Personnel Management to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

It further warned that any officer found aiding, supporting or allowing a retired civil servant to continue working beyond the statutory limit could face disciplinary action under the Civil Service Rules.

The directive takes immediate effect.
