Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government over unresolved questions surrounding the October 20, 2020, Lekki Toll Gate shooting.

Atiku made his position known on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, as Nigerians marked six years since the incident involving security personnel and #EndSARS protesters in Lagos.

In a statement shared on his X account, Atiku questioned who authorised the shooting and called for accountability over the events that occurred at the toll gate.

“Six years after the Lekki shooting, Nigeria is still waiting for a clear answer to one devastating question: Who gave the order?” he asked.

The ADC chieftain accused the APC, which has governed Nigeria since 2015, of failing to provide satisfactory answers to the questions surrounding the incident.

He also criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s response to the controversy in 2020, arguing that greater attention should have been given to accountability and the concerns of protesters and their families.

Atiku said the lingering questions surrounding the incident had contributed to public distrust and renewed calls for justice.

The Lekki Toll Gate shooting occurred during the nationwide #EndSARS protests against police brutality in October 2020. The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry subsequently investigated the incident and made findings concerning the actions of security personnel and the handling of evidence.

Six years later, the incident remains a subject of public debate, with renewed calls for transparency, accountability and answers for those affected.
