President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, into law, extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget until December 31, 2026.

The President’s assent followed the passage of the amendment by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

The amendment extends the implementation period from the previous September 30, 2026 deadline to December 31, 2026. The extension is intended to give Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete ongoing capital projects and utilise funds that have already been appropriated.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the extension would help prevent disruption to critical government programmes and allow ongoing capital projects to continue.

Tinubu also commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration and passage of the amendment, describing the development as a sign of cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.

The latest amendment represents the fourth extension of the implementation period for the 2025 budget. The deadline had previously been moved from December 31, 2025, to March 31, June 30 and then September 30, 2026.
